Who we are
A small studio with an unusually wide skillset.
Most property projects stall at the handovers — between designer and planner, planner and engineer, engineer and neighbour. We keep those disciplines in one studio, so the person drawing your extension already knows what the steel needs to do and what the council will ask. The result is fewer surprises, faster decisions and buildings that work the way they were drawn.
Design
We develop the design alongside the planning strategy and the structure, not one after the other. Drawings, applications and calculations move together.
Deliver
From consent to building regulations, party wall awards and technical information for your builder, we stay with the project until it is built.
How the studio began
Simplicity Designs UK Limited was founded in Hackney in 2008 with a simple observation: London property owners were being passed between consultants, and every handover cost them time, money and clarity. Bringing planning, design, engineering and party wall work into one studio removed those handovers — and the name became the working method. Simplicity is not plain design; it is a complicated process made straightforward for the person paying for it.
A track record in planning
Planning is our home ground. By 2011 we were responsible for more planning applications in Hackney than any other firm, and today we submit around 200 applications a year across London. That volume matters to you: it means we know the officers, the committees and the policies that decide your project — because we are in front of them every week.
Everything under one roof
Planning permission and listed building consent, extensions and loft conversions, structural calculations and steel beam design, party wall notices and awards, new builds, HMO conversions and commercial schemes — each service informs the others. A loft conversion designed here already accounts for the ridge steel, the party wall notice and the fire strategy, because the same studio produces all of them.
Who you'll work with
The studio is led by founder and principal designer Hakki Hassan, who has spent his career guiding London homeowners, landlords and developers from first sketch to finished building. You will always know who is responsible for your project — and you will always be able to reach them.
How we work
Plain language, honest advice and fixed stages. If a project is unlikely to win consent, we say so before you spend money on drawings. If a neighbour's party wall matter needs care, we handle it before it becomes a dispute. And if a simpler route exists — permitted development instead of a full application, a repair instead of a rebuild — we take it.
Where we work
Based in Hackney, we work across every London borough, with particular depth in Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Islington, Barnet, Enfield, Newham, Waltham Forest, Croydon and Kensington and Chelsea. Local policy knowledge is part of the service: what wins consent in one borough does not always win in the next.
